A Beautiful Church & Marquee Wedding in Ramsholt, Suffolk

There is something particularly lovely about a wedding that feels completely connected to a place, and Emma and Tom's wedding in Ramsholt, Suffolk was exactly that.

They married in a tiny countryside church before travelling just a short way down the road to their marquee reception, while their guests made the journey on foot.

Surrounded by the Suffolk countryside, marshes and river, the whole day had such a relaxed, personal feel — but it was the connection Emma already had to this part of Suffolk that made the setting even more meaningful.

An Intimate Church Wedding in Ramsholt

Emma and Tom's ceremony took place in the most beautiful little church.

It was tiny — which actually made it incredibly special.

With everyone sitting closely together, there was a real intimacy to the ceremony. Rather than guests feeling spread throughout a huge space, their family and friends were right there with them for every part of it.

From a photography perspective, I love ceremonies like this. Everyone is close enough that you can see the little reactions happening around the couple — parents watching, friends exchanging glances and all those moments that are so easily missed when you're standing at the front getting married.

It felt warm, personal and wonderfully fitting for the day Emma and Tom had planned.

From the Church to a Marquee in the Suffolk Countryside

After the ceremony, Emma and Tom left the church in a beautiful vintage car and made the short journey down the road to their reception.

Their guests walked from the church to the marquee, which I absolutely loved.

There's something about having those different parts of a wedding day connected in this way that gives the whole celebration a real sense of place. Rather than everyone getting back into cars and disappearing to another venue, the wedding simply flowed from the church into the surrounding Suffolk countryside.

The marquee itself was beautifully styled for the wedding breakfast, ready for an afternoon and evening of food, speeches and celebrations with everyone they loved.

Wedding Portraits on the Ramsholt Marshes

For Emma and Tom's couple photographs, we headed out onto the public marshes overlooking the river.

Not only did it give us an incredible natural backdrop, but this particular landscape had a much more personal significance for Emma.

It was somewhere she had spent time with her dad while growing up.

And I think that makes photographs infinitely more special.

A beautiful location is wonderful, but when the landscape in the photographs already holds memories for you, those images become part of a much bigger story.

We kept their portraits relaxed, taking a little time away from the reception to walk across the marshes together and make the most of the open landscape and beautiful light.

No elaborate posing or disappearing for hours — just Emma and Tom together in a place that genuinely meant something to them.

A Relaxed Suffolk Marquee Wedding

Back at the marquee, the rest of the afternoon was exactly what a relaxed countryside wedding should be.

Family and friends gathered together, drinks were poured and everyone settled in for the wedding breakfast and speeches before the evening celebrations began.

This is always the part of the day where I can concentrate almost entirely on documenting what's happening around me.

The big moments matter, of course, but so do the much smaller ones — conversations between guests, reactions during speeches, children running around outside and friends laughing together when nobody is thinking about the camera.

Those are often the photographs that transport you straight back to how your wedding actually felt.

Ramsholt Wedding Photography

Emma and Tom's wedding was such a beautiful example of why I love photographing weddings here in Suffolk.

It wasn't about creating an elaborate backdrop for photographs. The places that formed their wedding day already meant something.

A tiny country church filled with the people closest to them. Guests walking through the village to the reception. A marquee surrounded by countryside. And portraits overlooking the river on marshes that had been part of Emma's childhood.

It all felt completely personal to them.
