An Elegant Summer Wedding at Granary Estates, Suffolk

Emily and Ben's wedding at Granary Estates in Suffolk was the perfect combination of beautiful styling and a genuinely brilliant atmosphere.

They married inside the venue before heading into the gardens for their drinks reception, with live music playing as everyone relaxed into the afternoon.

Emily looked incredible in her Jenny Yoo wedding dress from Perla Nova Bridal, finished with an elegant neck scarf that completely made the look for me. The whole thing felt modern and stylish without being overly formal — and suited her perfectly.

But despite how gorgeous everything looked, this definitely wasn't a wedding where everyone stood around politely admiring the details.

At one point, we actually paused the formal photographs because Emily's favourite song came on and she wanted to go and dance with her girlfriends — something I am ALWAYS going to encourage. Your wedding isn't a photoshoot, and enjoying it will forever be more important to me than sticking rigidly to a photography schedule. We simply picked the photographs back up afterwards.

And honestly, that probably tells you everything you need to know about Emily and Ben's day.

Getting Ready for a Granary Estates Wedding

Emily's bridal look was one of my favourites from the day.

Her Jenny Yoo gown from Perla Nova Bridal, paired with that beautiful neck scarf, created such an elegant, contemporary look.

Hair by Hair So Boho and makeup by Emily Chantal MUA completed everything beautifully.

I always love photographing this part of a wedding morning — not just the finished bridal portraits, but everything happening around them. Dresses being steamed, makeup being finished, friends getting ready together and that gradual change in atmosphere as the ceremony gets closer.

By the time Emily was dressed and ready to go, everything had come together perfectly.

An Indoor Ceremony at Granary Estates

Emily and Ben chose to hold their ceremony inside at Granary Estates, surrounded by their family and friends.

Afterwards, everyone headed outside into the gardens for drinks, photographs and live music from Music Gardenia.

This part of a wedding day is always one of my favourites to photograph because nothing really needs organising. Everyone has a drink in hand, the nerves from the morning have disappeared and people can simply enjoy themselves.

And Emily and Ben's reception had such a fun atmosphere. With live music playing and everyone enjoying the sunshine outside, there was always something happening — exactly the kind of environment where I can step back and photograph the day as it unfolds.

Relaxed Wedding Photography at Granary Estates

We took a little time during the day for photographs of Emily and Ben together around the venue.

My approach to couple portraits is always to keep this part of the day relaxed and relatively quick.

I'll find the best light, give you enough direction that you never have to wonder what you're supposed to be doing, and then allow things to happen naturally between you.

It means we can create beautiful portraits without turning your drinks reception into a photoshoot — particularly important when there's live music playing and all your favourite people are waiting for you.

An Elegant Barn Wedding Breakfast

The barn looked absolutely beautiful for Emily and Ben's wedding breakfast.

White florals from The Suffolk Florist, soft draping and long trestle tables running through the space created a really elegant setting while still feeling relaxed and sociable.

I particularly love long tables at weddings because they have such a different energy once everyone is seated. Rather than lots of separate groups dotted around a room, there is this wonderful feeling of everyone celebrating together.

Before guests entered, I made sure to photograph the finished space and all those details that had gone into creating it.

Then the room filled, dinner was served and the focus shifted from how everything looked to the people enjoying it.

Exactly as it should.

From Live Music to a Packed Dance Floor

Music was a big part of Emily and Ben's wedding from the drinks reception right through to the evening.

After Music Gardenia performed acoustically earlier in the day, Jonny on Sax and Jollyboys DJs kept things going into the evening.

And considering Emily had already attempted to abandon her formal photographs for a dance several hours earlier, it probably isn't surprising that the evening celebrations were brilliant.

Once the dance floor gets going, I tend to get right amongst it rather than photographing everything safely from the edges.

The result is photographs that feel like being back in the middle of the party — movement, laughter, questionable dance moves and all.

Granary Estates Wedding Photography

Granary Estates is a beautiful Suffolk wedding venue, with the combination of its characterful indoor spaces and gardens giving couples plenty of flexibility throughout the day.

Emily and Ben used both perfectly: an indoor ceremony followed by drinks and live music outside, before everyone returned to the beautifully styled barn for dinner and an evening of celebrations.

But what I particularly loved about their wedding was that nothing ever felt too precious.

Everything looked gorgeous — the dress, the florals, the tables, the styling — but ultimately Emily and Ben were there to enjoy their wedding.

And that's exactly how I want my couples to feel.

As a Suffolk wedding photographer, my job isn't to turn your wedding into a photoshoot. It's to give you beautiful photographs while allowing you to stay completely involved in the day you've spent so long planning.

Even if that occasionally means losing my bride halfway through the group photographs because a particularly good song has come on.
