Millie & Joe’s Heartfelt Henstead Pavilion Wedding | Suffolk Wedding Photographer

A Relaxed Summer Wedding at Henstead Pavilion, Suffolk Millie and Joe's wedding at Henstead Pavilion in Suffolk was one of those wonderfully personal celebrations where the things that mattered most weren't necessarily the grand details, but the story behind them. They celebrated on an unbelievably hot summer day surrounded by their closest friends and family, with their twin boys right at the heart of everything. And then there was Millie's wedding dress — because this wasn't simply a dress she'd chosen for the day. She had made it herself, with the help of her mum. A Handmade Wedding Dress with a Very Special Story Of all the beautiful wedding dresses I've photographed over the years, there's something incredibly special about knowing exactly how much love and time has gone into creating one. In the months leading up to the wedding, Millie and her mum spent countless hours working together to make her dress. The finished result was absolutely gorgeous. Millie had created an elegant bridal look with a beautiful overdress, which she wore for the earlier part of the wedding before removing it later in the day. It gave her two different looks without ever needing a complete outfit change — and knowing that she and her mum had created it together made photographing all those little details even more meaningful. These are the stories I love discovering on wedding mornings. Years from now, the photographs aren't only going to show Millie what she wore — they'll remind her of all those hours spent with her mum making it. Millie and Joe's twin boys were a huge part of their wedding day, which made the whole celebration feel particularly family-centred. Weddings with children have their own wonderful energy. Things don't always happen exactly when or how they're supposed to — which, from a documentary photography point of view, is often where the best photographs come from. Alongside all the traditional parts of the wedding, there were so many little family moments unfolding throughout the day. Those interactions between Millie, Joe and their boys became just as important to photograph as the ceremony, portraits and details. For me, that's a huge part of telling the complete story of a wedding. It's not only about what everything looked like; it's about who was there and how it all felt. A VERY Hot Suffolk Summer Wedding And then there was the weather. It was incredibly hot. We had proper summer sunshine throughout the day, giving everyone plenty of opportunity to enjoy the outdoor spaces at Henstead Pavilion — although finding a little shade became increasingly appealing as the temperature climbed! The sunshine gave us gorgeous light to work with for photographs, and we kept Millie and Joe's portraits relaxed and relatively short so they weren't disappearing from their guests — or melting in the process. I never want couples to feel as though they have to spend a huge portion of their wedding day posing for photographs. A little gentle direction and some beautiful light are usually all we need before you can get straight back to celebrating. Pretty, Relaxed Styling at Henstead Pavilion The styling had a lovely softness to it, with florals from Dear Luna Florals and draping by Boomting Bunting transforming the space for the celebration. Amy Annabelle Events coordinated the day, bringing everything together while Millie and Joe could concentrate on enjoying themselves with their family and friends. From the emotional moments earlier in the day through to speeches, dinner and eventually a packed dance floor with DJ Nick Chatten, there was so much happening to photograph. And that's always when I can disappear into the background a little more — watching for reactions, laughter and all the moments that couples often don't even realise happened until they see their gallery. Henstead Pavilion Wedding Photography Henstead Pavilion is a lovely Suffolk wedding venue, surrounded by countryside and with plenty of outdoor space for relaxed summer celebrations. It's also particularly local to me, so it's always lovely getting to photograph weddings practically on my doorstep! Millie and Joe's day was such a gorgeous example of the kind of wedding I love documenting — relaxed, personal and centred around the people who mattered most to them. From a completely handmade wedding dress created by Millie and her mum to watching their twin boys be part of such an important family day, their photographs hold so much more than simply how everything looked. As a Suffolk wedding photographer, that's always what I'm looking for: the beautiful portraits and details alongside all the genuine, fleeting moments that make one wedding completely different from another. If you're planning a wedding at Henstead Pavilion or elsewhere in Suffolk and you're looking for relaxed, natural photography that lets you spend your day actually enjoying it, I'd love to hear what you're planning.
