A Beautiful Spring Wedding at Pentney Abbey, Norfolk

There is something particularly lovely about a spring wedding, especially when the weather decides to completely cooperate! Victoria and Steven married at Pentney Abbey in Norfolk in March and were treated to the most beautiful sunshine, allowing so much of their celebration to spill outside into the grounds.

Their day was elegant and understated, with soft neutral styling, beautiful florals and lots of thoughtful details. But more than anything, it was incredibly warm and emotional — one of those weddings where you could really feel how much everyone there adored them.

A Gatehouse Ceremony at Pentney Abbey

Victoria and Steven held their ceremony inside Pentney Abbey's beautiful historic Gatehouse, one of my favourite features of the venue.

It provided such an atmospheric setting for their vows, surrounded by their closest friends and family. It was an emotional ceremony with plenty of happy tears — exactly the sort of moments I love quietly capturing as they happen.

Afterwards, everyone gathered outside the Gatehouse for confetti. With those incredible old gates behind Victoria and Steven, it made the perfect backdrop and was such a brilliant way to begin the celebrations.

Spring Sunshine & an Outdoor Drinks Reception

For a wedding in March, we were incredibly lucky with the weather. The sun came out, it was beautifully warm for early spring and everyone was able to enjoy the drinks reception outside.

Jamie Strings provided live guitar and vocals while guests relaxed in the sunshine, caught up with friends and enjoyed that lovely just-married part of the day.

This is always one of my favourite times to photograph. Once the ceremony and confetti are over, everyone relaxes and I can simply move amongst the guests capturing all the hugs, conversations, laughter and little moments happening naturally.

Relaxed Wedding Portraits at Pentney Abbey

The beautiful spring light also gave us the perfect opportunity to sneak away for a few relaxed photographs of Victoria and Steven together.

Victoria looked incredible in her beautifully simple and elegant gown from Adella Bridal. Against the historic stonework and grounds of Pentney Abbey, the understated style of her dress looked absolutely breathtaking.

We didn't disappear for hours or turn their wedding into a photoshoot. Instead, we made the most of that gorgeous light and the surroundings for a short wander together before getting them straight back to their guests.

It's exactly how I like couple portraits to feel — beautiful and considered, but still relaxed and very much part of the wedding day rather than an interruption to it.

An Elegant Wedding Breakfast in the Barn

Inside the barn, Floralsistas and Epic Events Norfolk had created the most beautiful setting for the wedding breakfast.

Soft neutral florals with touches of pink filled delicate bud vases across the tables, complemented by beautiful stationery from Silk & Ink Designs and warm hanging lights overhead.

The finished room felt romantic and elegant without being overdone, and worked beautifully with the character of the barn itself.

After dinner and speeches, the celebrations carried on into the evening before everyone eventually made their way onto the dance floor — and from that point, things became considerably less understated.

Pentney Abbey Wedding Photography

Pentney Abbey is such a beautiful Norfolk wedding venue to photograph. Between the historic Gatehouse, barn and surrounding grounds, there are so many gorgeous backdrops, but it still has a wonderfully relaxed feel that allows the day to flow naturally.

Victoria and Steven's wedding was the perfect example — elegant and beautifully styled, but ultimately centred around enjoying the day with all their favourite people.

That's exactly what I want my photography to preserve: the beautiful details and portraits, of course, but also the reactions, laughter, happy tears and fleeting little moments that tell you what your wedding actually felt like.
