A Church & Marquee Wedding on the Family Farm in Suffolk

A Church & Marquee Wedding on the Family Farm in Suffolk Georgia and Bertie's wedding had everything I love about a countryside celebration: a beautiful church ceremony, a marquee on the family farm, vintage vehicles, an enormous amount of confetti... and some very determined British weather. They celebrated near Framlingham in Suffolk, with their reception held at Georgia's family home — making the setting much more than simply somewhere they'd chosen for their wedding. The rain arrived on and off throughout the day, umbrellas appeared everywhere and plans had to flex around the weather, but honestly? Nobody seemed particularly bothered. And that's exactly how it should be. The photographs are full of people laughing beneath umbrellas, running between showers and simply getting on with having a brilliant time. If anything, the weather became part of the story. A Suffolk Wedding Morning at the Family Farm Georgia spent the morning getting ready at the family home, surrounded by the familiar Suffolk countryside that would later become the setting for their reception. Pretty Faces Makeup created Georgia's beautiful bridal makeup, while seasonal florals from Callendars Florist brought soft colour and texture to the day. Then it was time to head to church. And Georgia's wedding transport couldn't have suited the setting better. She travelled through the Suffolk countryside in a vintage Land Rover — one of those brilliant details that immediately gave the day its own personality and looked completely at home against the rural backdrop. A Traditional Church Wedding in Suffolk Georgia and Bertie married in church surrounded by their family and friends before emerging as newlyweds ready for one of my favourite parts of the day: Confetti. And their guests did not hold back. At one point, an entire basket of confetti was tipped over the two of them, creating absolute chaos and some fantastic photographs. This is why I will forever encourage couples to have more confetti than they think they need. You really cannot be too enthusiastic with it. Once everyone had sufficiently covered Georgia and Bertie — and most of the surrounding area — in confetti, it was time to make the journey back to the farm. A Vintage Red Bus Back to the Farm While Georgia and Bertie travelled back towards the reception, their guests climbed aboard a vintage red bus for the journey from the church. It's details like this that I love at countryside weddings. Rather than the ceremony and reception feeling like two completely separate parts of the day, the journey between them became part of the celebration too. Everyone arrived back at the family farm ready for drinks and the marquee reception — umbrellas never particularly far away. A Rainy British Summer Wedding It would be impossible to tell Georgia and Bertie's wedding story without mentioning the rain. It came and went throughout the day, meaning plans occasionally changed and umbrellas featured rather heavily in proceedings. But it didn't spoil anything. Not even slightly. I know couples can worry so much about rain in the lead-up to their wedding, but this day is such a good example of why it doesn't have to dictate how your wedding feels. You can't control the weather. You can decide whether you're going to let it matter. Georgia, Bertie and their guests embraced it, and some of the photographs I love most from the day exist precisely because things weren't completely perfect and predictable. Give me a happy couple, a crowd of people who are up for enjoying themselves and a collection of umbrellas, and we'll be absolutely fine. A Marquee Wedding on the Family Farm Back at the farm, Human Nature Events had brought everything together for Georgia and Bertie's reception. Hosting the wedding at Georgia's family home made the celebration feel particularly personal. This wasn't simply a beautiful patch of Suffolk countryside chosen for the day — it was somewhere already connected to their family and their lives. The marquee created a wonderful space for everyone to gather while still keeping that connection to the countryside surrounding it. Florals from Callendars Florist complemented the rural setting beautifully, with natural, seasonal arrangements running throughout the celebration. Between showers, everyone spilled outside for drinks and photographs before heading back into the marquee for dinner and speeches. Relaxed Wedding Photography in the Suffolk Countryside We found a few opportunities throughout the day to take Georgia and Bertie away for some photographs together, working around the weather rather than trying to fight it. That's exactly how I'd always approach a day like this. There's no point rigidly insisting “couple photographs happen at 4pm” if 4pm happens to coincide with horizontal rain. Instead, I keep an eye on the weather and the light and find little windows that work naturally within the day. It means you can get beautiful portraits without spending your wedding staring anxiously at a weather app — or standing miserably in the rain because that's what the schedule says you should be doing. A Brilliant Marquee Wedding Party By the evening, nobody was remotely interested in what the weather was doing outside. With live music from The Talent Events, the marquee filled and the celebrations properly got underway. This is when I can completely immerse myself in documenting what's happening — friends on the dance floor, reactions between guests and all the slightly chaotic moments that inevitably appear once the formal part of a wedding is over. Georgia and Bertie's photographs tell the story of a beautiful wedding, but they also show something I think matters much more: Everyone was having a genuinely brilliant time. Suffolk Church & Marquee Wedding Photography Georgia and Bertie's wedding is such a lovely example of why I adore photographing church and marquee weddings in Suffolk. There was no single traditional wedding venue containing the whole day. Instead, there was a family home, a country church, a vintage Land Rover, guests travelling through Suffolk on a red bus, a marquee in the countryside and a landscape that already meant something to the people celebrating there. And yes — quite a lot of rain. But that's part of their story too. As a Suffolk wedding photographer, I'm there to capture the wedding you actually have, not force it into a predetermined photography schedule. Whatever the weather decides to do, my priority will always be making sure you're enjoying your day while I preserve all the beautiful, funny and completely unexpected moments happening around you. If you're planning a church wedding, marquee celebration or wedding at your family home in Suffolk, I'd love to hear what you're planning.
