A Beautiful Summer Wedding at Butley Priory, Suffolk

A Beautiful Summer Wedding at Butley Priory, Suffolk There are some wedding venues that are an absolute joy to photograph, and Butley Priory is definitely one of them. Tucked away in the Suffolk countryside, it has that wonderful combination of history, character and relaxed elegance that makes it feel incredibly special without ever feeling too formal. Janine and Guy's beautiful summer wedding suited it perfectly. We were treated to the most incredible sunshine, gorgeous florals and a celebration that felt elegant and considered, but still completely relaxed and full of personality. Getting Ready at Butley Priory One of the things I love about photographing weddings at Butley Priory is having so much of the day unfolding in one beautiful place. There's a lovely sense of calm to the venue in the morning, even with all the excitement building around you. Janine got ready surrounded by her bridal party, with Amber Harlow creating her effortlessly beautiful makeup. She wore an incredible Suzanne Neville wedding dress, which couldn't have suited the setting more perfectly — elegant, timeless and beautifully understated. Those quieter hours before the ceremony are always some of my favourites to photograph. The finishing touches, anticipation and little interactions between everyone often become some of the most meaningful photographs in the final gallery. An Indoor Ceremony Overlooking the Gardens Janine and Guy held their ceremony in the beautiful main room at Butley Priory, in front of the large doors opening out towards the gardens. With the sunshine streaming in and the gardens beyond, it was such a gorgeous setting for the ceremony and one of those spaces that really doesn't need much added to it. Afterwards, everyone could spill out into the sunshine and enjoy the grounds, giving Janine and Guy plenty of time to celebrate properly with their guests while I photographed all those lovely little moments happening around them. Relaxed Wedding Photography in the Suffolk Sunshine The grounds at Butley Priory are beautiful for photographs, but one spot in particular was impossible to resist. The farmhouse was covered in the most incredible wall of pink roses, completely in bloom and looking spectacular in the summer sunshine. It made the most gorgeous backdrop for some relaxed portraits of Janine and Guy and tied in beautifully with the soft pink roses used throughout their wedding styling. I never want couple photographs to feel like a huge production or take you away from your wedding for ages. We kept things relaxed, made the most of the beautiful surroundings and then got Janine and Guy straight back to enjoying the day with everyone they loved. Thoughtful Speeches — and a Surprise from the Groom Later came some incredibly thoughtful speeches, but Guy had something rather special planned for Janine. Rather than stopping at a traditional groom's speech, he performed a song for his new wife — such a personal moment and definitely one of the highlights of the day. These are always the moments I love capturing most. The reactions, laughter, emotion and little glances between people can't be recreated later, and they're often the photographs that transport you straight back to exactly how your wedding felt. As the celebrations continued into the evening, the day became even more relaxed — plenty of laughter, drinks and eventually a very full dance floor. Butley Priory Wedding Photography I absolutely love photographing weddings at Butley Priory. It's one of my favourite Suffolk wedding venues, with beautiful interiors, gorgeous gardens and so many lovely places for photographs without ever needing to disappear away from your guests for long. It also lends itself perfectly to the way I photograph weddings: naturally and unobtrusively for most of the day, with gentle direction when it's actually helpful. The result is a gallery filled with all the real moments alongside beautiful, relaxed portraits that still feel completely like you. Janine and Guy's wedding was such a gorgeous example of that — elegant and romantic, but above all incredibly warm, joyful and personal. If you're planning your own Butley Priory wedding and are looking for a Suffolk wedding photographer to capture your day naturally while you simply enjoy being in it, I'd absolutely love to hear what you're planning.
