A Colourful Marquee Wedding at Brook Farm Cuffley
Some weddings are simply bursting with colour, energy and personality from the moment you arrive — and Harlin and Andy's incredible wedding at Brook Farm Cuffley was exactly that. From the most beautiful Indian wedding dress catching the summer light to an emotional first look, gorgeous florals, henna, a seriously impressive confetti line and a dance floor beneath hanging disco balls, this was a day with so much to photograph. But underneath all of those beautiful details was what mattered most: a huge celebration surrounded by the people they love. And there were plenty of them! The morning began at a gorgeous Airbnb close to Brook Farm, where everyone was getting ready under one roof. Harlin and the girls had taken over upstairs, while Andy and the guys were downstairs. I love this part of a wedding day. There's the anticipation, the finishing touches, people constantly appearing in doorways, music playing, glasses being poured and that gradual change in atmosphere as everyone realises: okay, this is actually happening. And then there was Harlin's dress - the detailing was like something I had never seen before! Harlin looked absolutely incredible. Her Indian wedding dress was full of intricate detail and the way the fabric caught and reflected the sunlight was just beautiful to photograph. Combined with her henna, jewellery and all of the carefully chosen details, there was so much richness and texture to capture. These are the photographs that help tell the complete story of a wedding. Not just the big moments, but the details that have been chosen so carefully and that are so much a part of the day. And before the celebrations properly began, Harlin and Andy had one particularly special moment planned. Harlin and Andy chose to see each other before the ceremony, and their first look was such a lovely moment to photograph. Away from the guests and everything else happening around them, they had a few minutes that were completely their own. There was anticipation, emotion and that wonderful reaction when Andy finally saw Harlin. First looks aren't something every couple chooses, but when they do, I love how they create this little pocket of calm in the middle of what can otherwise be a very busy part of the day. And from there, it was time to head to Brook Farm. Brook Farm is such a beautiful setting for an outdoor summer wedding. Surrounded by Hertfordshire countryside, with water, woodland and plenty of open space, it gave Harlin and Andy the perfect backdrop for the relaxed, colourful celebration they'd created. Their marquee was filled with gorgeous florals and thoughtful details, bringing all of that colour from the day into the reception space. Outside, meanwhile, the drinks reception was very much underway. Great food, plenty of drinks and so many guests having a genuinely brilliant time. These are always some of my favourite photographs from a wedding gallery. Everyone has relaxed after the ceremony, conversations are happening everywhere and I can simply move through the celebration capturing it all as it unfolds. No organising. No posing. Just people enjoying themselves. Possibly the longest confetti line I've ever photographed... And with this many guests, obviously we had to make the most of it. Harlin and Andy's confetti moment took place along Brook Farm's waterside walkway, and the line of guests seemed to go on forever. Exactly how I like it! There is something about confetti photographs that captures the energy of a wedding so perfectly. They're chaotic, colourful and completely unpredictable — everyone is laughing, someone's inevitably thrown their entire handful directly into the groom's face, and for a few seconds there is absolutely no controlling what's happening. Which usually makes for brilliant photographs. As the light softened later in the day, we slipped away for a little time together around the beautiful grounds at Brook Farm. I never want couple portraits to feel like an interruption to the wedding. A short wander, a little gentle direction and space for the two of you to actually enjoy being together is usually all we need. Then it's straight back to your guests. And in Harlin and Andy's case, there was a party waiting. The energy carried straight through into the evening — exactly the kind of dance floor I love photographing. Movement, laughter, slightly questionable dance moves and absolutely no need for anyone to look at my camera. Perfect. A wedding completely full of life What I loved most about Harlin and Andy's Brook Farm wedding was just how much life there was in it. The colour and beautiful styling were incredible to photograph, but it was the people that made the day what it was. The emotion of their first look. The excitement of everyone arriving. The conversations during the drinks reception. The enormous confetti line. The laughter. The dancing. Those are the things I want a wedding gallery to bring back. Not simply what everything looked like, but what it actually felt like to be there. Harlin and Andy, thank you for having me. What an absolutely wonderful day to photograph.
