A Beautiful Summer Wedding at Crows Hall, Suffolk

Robyn & Rob's elegant countryside wedding Some wedding days feel special before they've even begun, and Robyn and Rob's beautiful wedding at Crows Hall was one of them. I'd already spent time with these two at their pre-wedding shoot a few months earlier, so by the time their wedding arrived it genuinely felt like I was turning up to photograph people I already knew. We'd had a chance to chat, laugh, get comfortable with the camera and build that relationship beforehand — which made walking into Crows Hall on the morning of their wedding even lovelier. And what a place to spend a wedding week. Robyn and Rob had exclusive use of Crows Hall, allowing them to settle in and enjoy the beautiful Suffolk countryside surrounding them rather than having their wedding feel like a single day that was over in a flash. The morning began inside the hall, with Robyn and her bridesmaids getting ready in the beautiful grand bedrooms upstairs. There was that lovely mixture of excitement and anticipation that comes with wedding mornings — hair and make-up underway, dresses hanging ready, jewellery being carefully unpacked and everyone gradually realising that the day they'd spent so long planning had finally arrived. Robyn looked absolutely beautiful. Her wedding dress was elegant and timeless, and suited her perfectly. She wore her hair down in soft curls, finished with beautiful jewellery and carefully chosen details that brought everything together without ever feeling overdone. While I photographed the girls upstairs, my second photographer Bethany was downstairs with Rob and the guys. Having two photographers on a wedding like this means both sides of the morning become part of the story. While Robyn was getting into her dress upstairs, all of those little moments happening downstairs were being documented too. And then it was time for the church. Robyn and Rob chose to marry at a church with a special connection to their family, which made their ceremony feel particularly meaningful. I love when the places couples choose aren't simply beautiful, but have a story behind them too. Those connections become another part of the history you're documenting. After the ceremony, everyone gathered outside the church for the first of two rather brilliant confetti moments. With the newlyweds thoroughly covered in confetti, it was time to head back through the Suffolk countryside to Crows Hall and get the celebrations properly underway. Crows Hall is an absolute dream for a Suffolk wedding. The gardens are genuinely show-stopping, and on a summer afternoon they gave Robyn and Rob the most beautiful setting for their drinks reception. But this part of the day isn't just about the setting. Once everyone has a drink in their hand and the ceremony is over, something shifts. People relax, conversations start, groups form across the lawn and suddenly there are photographs happening absolutely everywhere. Those are the moments I love quietly looking for. Friends catching up. Grandparents watching everything happening around them. Huge hugs. Children doing their own thing. Someone laughing with a glass of champagne in their hand. Meanwhile, Robyn and Rob could simply enjoy the afternoon they'd created with everyone they loved. And then came one of my favourite photographs of the day. Crows Hall's beautiful moat and bridge gave us the perfect opportunity for confetti round two. We lined everyone along the walkway with Robyn and Rob making their way through the middle, surrounded by another explosion of confetti. The combination of the water, gardens, beautiful Suffolk setting and everyone celebrating around them made for such an incredible photograph — exactly the kind of big, joyful wedding moment that deserves to be printed enormous. Later in the afternoon, we took a little wander around the grounds for Robyn and Rob's couple portraits. Crows Hall gives you so much to work with as a wedding photographer. The gardens, architecture, water and surrounding countryside mean there are beautiful backdrops everywhere, without needing to disappear from the wedding for hours. That's really important to me. Your wedding day isn't a photoshoot, and I don't want your memories of it to involve spending half the afternoon away from everyone you've invited. Instead, we'll take a little time together, I'll give you some gentle direction when you need it and we'll create beautiful portraits without anything feeling stiff or overly posed. And because we'd already had that pre-wedding shoot together, Robyn and Rob knew exactly what to expect. They could simply relax and enjoy a few minutes together. And then... the party - As beautiful as the quieter parts of a wedding day are, I will always have a soft spot for a brilliant dance floor. And this one absolutely delivered. With Agent Smith playing and everyone very much ready to celebrate, the evening quickly turned into the kind of dance floor I love photographing — packed, energetic and full of moments that need absolutely no direction from me. At that point, my job is simply to get amongst it. The elegant portraits from earlier in the day sit alongside people throwing themselves around the dance floor, and somehow both are equally important parts of the story. Because that's what the wedding actually felt like. A Suffolk wedding I loved being part of Robyn and Rob were genuinely such a lovely couple to photograph. Having spent time together before the wedding meant we'd already built that relationship, and I think that trust makes such a difference. They knew they didn't need to think about the photography or worry about what they should be doing. They could simply enjoy themselves. From the quiet preparations at Crows Hall and their meaningful church ceremony to drinks in the gardens, confetti over the moat and an absolutely brilliant dance floor, there was so much life in this day. And that's always what I want a wedding gallery to hold onto. Not just how beautiful everything looked, but the people, relationships, atmosphere and little moments that made the day theirs.
